Dusk Films was founded by John Rich and Aaron B. Smith in Early 2003 with the goal of utilizing the vast talent pool of filmmakers that west Michigan has to offer. In May of 2004 Aaron B. Smith took over sole ownership of the company and has continued the vision of Dusk Films.
Since Dusk Films' inception, Aaron B. Smith has traveled extensively throughout the world. Dusk Films has gone to Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Haiti, and Spain. On the stateside, Aaron has done work in Florida, Texas, New York, and Hawaii.
Dusk Films has worked for clients such as Crossfire Productions, International Steward, Officers' Christian Fellowship, The Acton Institute, Angels Crossing, Grey Matter Group and Spout.com.
Over time Dusk Films has forged relationships with a variety of creative partners. Rather then getting taller, Dusk Films has gotten wider as relationships with the other filmmakers have been formed. This approach allows for creative agility in how Dusk Films approaches each project.
Old Fashioned Pictures is an independent motion picture production company established for the production of two films. The first was a 35-mm short film entitled "The Least Of These." The second is a feature length film, entitled "Old Fashioned," that is currently in development. The main connection Dusk Films has with Old Fashioned Pictures is through Rik Swartzwelder. In 2005 Aaron Smith and Rik met on a film set for a short a film called Art Appreciation which was being produced through Compass Film Academy. This began a relationship that yielded two more short films and plans for future collaborations.
No Goat is Evan Koons. Evan Koons and Aaron Smith met first at Calvin College and then reunited through Compass Film Academy. Evan works as a writer, actor and teacher. Evan's ability to create story is invaluable in Dusk Film's endeavors as a purveyor of stories that are often missed.
Aware Creative offer creative services to non-profit and governmental organizations seeking peace and justice. Founded by Samuel Bowles in 2005, Aware Creative is just getting off the ground here in the U.S. and very soon in Spain. Aaron Smith and Samuel have worked together on and off on various endeavors since 2002.
Doug Nagel, who founded Synchronous SP, has known Aaron Smith since grade school. In high school they made short films together. After graduating from college, that creative relationship still continues, collaborating on short films or promotional films. Doug has extended his ability with editing and sound to Dusk Films on projects for International Steward and Officers' Christian Fellowship. Doug has also been heavily involved in the the short film projects with Old Fashioned Pictures and Dusk Films.
Pulling on almost a decade of experience, Matthew Burnell Creative Media has helped clients develop creative projects from online storefronts to promotional videos. The working relationship with Matt Burnell Creative Media begins in 2006 with a collaboration between Dusk Films and No Goat on a feature length documentary for Hospice of Michigan.
Eric Johnson and Eric Machiela founded Gorilla Pictures in 2004 to produce engaging and creative films that better people's lives. The work of Gorilla Pictures is strong in visuals and strong in story. These strengths offer an excellent compliment to the work of Dusk Films.
